New Van for CHEEERS
CHEEERS was delighted to accept the keys to the first of two vans awarded through the City of Phoenix Public Transit Division and the Federal Transit Administration Section 5310 Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program. Pictured is our CHEEERS staff standing in front of our new 2017 Chevy Express 12 Passenger van that will be used to transport our programs participants to various community outings, resources and events. CHEEERS offers an OutNAbout program with a primary purpose to develop recreational, social and community integration skills. Five times a week we are out in the community at various activities to include our Adopt a Street Program, Graffiti Busters, and visiting our Community Garden on the weekends. Having a van that can transport 12 of our participants, safely to and from these events allows us to engage more individuals in activities. We also have a van equipped for wheel chair access on the way! Thank you to our partners at City of Phoenix that made this process seamless and for supporting what we do at CHEEERS.

Your Support is Needed
CHEEERS Recovery Center is a non-profit community service
agency serving adults with serious mental illness and behavioral health
challenges. Our state certified Peer Supports provide Recovery Support Services
through classes, groups, events, and one-on-one mentoring. We help individuals find meaning, purpose and
social connections in their lives.

This year Governor Doug Ducey signed into legislation SB 1216, which increases Arizona's 2016 charitable tax credit donation limits. Please consult your tax professional to determine eligibility. The contributions deadline in Arizona for Charitable Organizations has been extended to April 15th, 2017 however; you may want to make your year-end donation now, just two days left in 2016 !!! At CHEEERS our primary focus is in these areas:
EMPOWERMENT is key to our program in helping our participants identify and utilize their strengths in order to advance their recovery. We provide EDUCATION and resources, so that our participants can promote understanding and work to de-stigmatize mental illness and substance abuse. EMPLOYMENT is a primary goal so that our participants develop job skills to move forward in their lives with hope and purpose.

Whole Health Action Plan for CHEEERS in 2017
CHEEERS is
currently seeking donations to support the addition of an exercise room on our
campus, to go along with a new program we are offering called Whole Health
Action Management. (WHAM). Given the high
incidence of chronic physical health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease
and obesity among people with mental illnesses and addictions, WHAM training is
a health plan developed by peers for peers to help them improve chronic health
and behavioral health conditions. The training is based on the curriculum
developed by the SAMHSA-HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions (run by the
National Council for Behavioral Health) to promote whole health self-management
and strengthen the peer workforce’s role in integrated healthcare delivery.
This year,
Governor Ducey extended the eligibility period for to allow individuals tax credits on their 2016 income tax filing for donations made to Charitable
Organizations through April 15h, 2017 **
Donations made
to CHEEERS can be designated to assist us in purchasing exercise equipment and
materials for a new “exercise room” at CHEEERS that will also be made available
to our staff members. Leading by example
and supporting one another is the key to health and wellness for all.

CHEEERS at University of Missouri for Project ECHO
Kansas City, MO.- CHEEERS is represented in Kansas City this
week by Kimberly Craig, CEO, who has
been invited to participant in Project ECHO , an innovative project supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Administration (SAMHSA) to address the needs of Pregnant and postpartum
women with mental health and substance use disorders. This pilot project is a collaborative effort
with subject matter experts joining with the University of Missouri, and the Addiction
Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Center of Excellence on Behavioral for Pregnant and
Postpartum Women and Their Families, along with the SAMHSA funded programs that
serve pregnant women throughout the United States. Project ECHO, leverages multipoint
videoconferencing and a subject matter expert (SME) panel representing a wide
range of disciplines and expertise to provide individualized, case-based learning
to clinicians. In particular the Pregnant

impacted by substance use and mental health
disorders and to monitor outcomes, and 2) develop a model to treat complex

SAMHSA’s Pregnant and Parenting Women Grantee

in projects that introduce innovative methods to meet the needs of individuals
with mental health and substance use disorders. Kimberly’s contribution on the panel will incorporate her 16 + years of experience
working in women’s services, her knowledge around implementation of family
centered programming (namely father or male involvement in predominately female
focused programming) the use of Peer Support Services as an effective and evidenced based intervention, as well as methods to develop and integrate Peer Support
Mentors in family centered programs.

CHEEERS Launches New Website
CHEEERS
wishes to thank Diane DiCioccio who graciously shared her expertise, time
and energy to develop our website through a Service by Design project
and Experience Matters.
For those who don't
know, Experience Matters is a wonderful resource that matches
experienced, business professionals who are looking for opportunities to
give back and share their expertise with local service and non-profit
organizations. CHEEERS submitted a proposal for a project to
re-design our website (okay, that's not what we proposed, but it's
what we decided was needed after meeting with Diane). We feel extremely
grateful that Diane chose us as an organization to assist. Not only do we
have a fantastic website to show off, we have thoroughly enjoyed the exchange, benefit
of her vast knowledge in marketing, and the support and encouragement she
has offered us, as the business savvy woman that she is. We even had the good
fortune of having Carly, Diane's equally talented and savvy daughter, join us
for a summer internship on her break from Barnard College, Columbia
University! Please check out our website and while you are there,
subscribe to this blog, and stay updated on what's new at
CHEEERS! www.cheeers.org
